Ask Jean Le Boeuf: Sunday romance in Fort Myers?
A reader seeks romance on a day when many restaurants are closed. Can it be done?
•Q: I am from out of town and would like to know where to have a nice dinner in Fort Myers on a Sunday evening for two that is as romantic as possible. Is it possible?! — Kelly O.
•A: On Sundays and Mondays in summer you might as well fast. Many of the best restaurants take those days for themselves, a break from the constant push that will start up again come late fall. A romantic Sunday night meal is possible, though. But it may depend on your definition of romance. If, like me, you find good service and thick steaks kind of steamy, then check out Prime de Leon in downtown Fort Myers. It’s open Sundays, serving its Prime, dry-aged beef along one of the prettiest courtyards in town. Cru at the (sort of a little romantic) Bell Tower Shops is another excellent option. Chef-owner Harold Balink knows good food, and his Cru crew is just as passionate and talented as he is. Or, if you don’t mind a drive south, head to one of the most romantic places around, The Bay House. This North Naples (practically Bonita) restaurant sits on the Cocohatchee River with white table cloths, Southern-inspired coastal cuisine, and servers who pamper you from amuse-bouche to digestif. It is a bit of a drive from Fort Myers, but on a Sunday you can’t possibly get more romantic.
